Day 4 Nan - temples, rick sow ride , fly back to bangkok

16 march 2014 -  Nan City Explorer 

The party was almost done. I had a mixed felling both of missing home and did not want to leave Nan.

We woke up at 06.00 and leave hotel at 08.00 for rickshaw ride or tricycle ride.

I was the most colorful tricycle. My tricycle has a motor. The driver ride for 2 step and turn the engine on. At first i tough this was cheating but anther though said he was old . What's the hack ! Just get this vehicle moving was enough. Why bother with little bugs issue.

We went inside the temple which is totally in white color. The temple has city pillar inside. The building is decorate with stucco lower relief design. The stucco has mirror and color glass decoration. The main chapel has Buddha Statue for decoration .

Continue to Wat Sri Pan Ton Muang. The main chapel pain in gold color and there are ancient boat about 30 meter long. It can accommodate the 40 rowers .  Inside the main chapel has old Buddha statue and painting the story of Nan history

City Wall

Continue to Nan City wall by motor  tricycle. Many ancient Siam kingdom share the  lay out of the city. It must have been only one blue print. The city wall made of brick was surround with city moat. After the city develop , the new ruler though that city wall was old fashion. Many town get rid of it . Nan could preserve only 100 meter long which is good enough compare with many town that could not do that.

Chiang mai is also another long city wall preserving . Bangkok almost none city wall lelf. We only got 50 meter long by estimate. It was sad story.

Then, we went to Baan Hong Samot ( the library guest house for drink ) Turn out that we stay to long for over 40 minute. This place is a resident for many famous Thai writer to stay. The place has coffee shop and book to read. Oh Man !! Dome , you can leave me here all day.

Then go back to Wat Phumin to drive back to resort. Some of people from the group travel to Bangkok by bus so they need refreshment before head back.

We come to town for local lunch. The small restaurant is located right in the hart of Nan city. I order Koa Soa with pork. Then i walked to Wat Phumin before other people.

I was lucky to met the local guide who is a student. They explain the temple and the painting very well. I remember a few story such as old Nan people smoking both man and woman. Single woman were topless - Gosh ! Is it true?

Then I walk to the museum, we went inside for learn about ethnic group and history of Nan. This place once was a palace of the ruler. I was glad to have tour guide explain about all item inside. Otherwise, it will like go, see the object and do not know about anything.

I am a tour guide that why having tour guide escort or explain thing will bring more harmony and real learning during travelling.

Then , the last stop is I-Sugar and cake , cookie and drink place before our group drive me to the airport.

We made a wrong turn to new airport terminal. Later, Mr. Dome manage to come back to the old terminal just right in time. The terminal is small. It is only 2 airline use it .  Nok air which provide daily flight from/ to Bangkok for 3 times daily. Another airline is KAN air , this airline provide 14 seat jets to go to other town

such as Chiang mai, Kon kean and Pittsanulok for instance.

Day 3 Nan Tour -Pua to Nan

15 March 2014

Today, we woke up late at 06.00 hrs. Some people went to shower early or later. After that, we got breakfast as Koa Tom (rice soup my favorite dish) .

Then it was a time for taking picture by Mr. Dome. The morning light was perfect for photos on the small river.

Then, we walk to another salt mine. It is similar to yesterday.  We got a lot of pictures. We bough some produce such as salt from the village. We also feeding the small fishes. This morning was a very relaxing and refreshment day due to nice weather.

10.00 , we drove back to Pua and continue to Wat Nong Bua. After the car park in front of the temple, the local folk music were perform by this old villager. They sat under the tree in front of the small chaple. The small temple was stunning in landscape. The 150 years old mural painting draw many tourist to visit.

This temple is one of the great example to show the tight relationship between temple and local people. People donate the house and all equipment to show the original Thai Lua house. I proud to visit there to see the local idea to do the best to show their culture.

Then we having lunch at small restaurant next to the river.   It was awesome here. I have to taste the local dishes such as Keng Som. It is very unique taste.

We travel back to Nan city. We made another stop at temple. I would say the rest of stay was dedicate for temple. This temple is called Wat Pha Kead . The old folk come together to create Tung. Tung is a flag made of paper and has local design decorated such as angle, Buddha, and secrete animal.

 This is another place that i admired village people so much. They come here every day. It was a wonderful place to hang out and so useful to community. I have no wonder why Mr.Dome like this place much.

We took a quick look at the museum which we can old thing that people donate to temple such as old tool, money , dress and etc.

Next, we went to visit the silver smith . He was the best silver smith in town. He can create the amazing crave bowl by very basic tool. The factory area is just 2 square meter width .  If my mom visited here, she must buy a big piece of  this bowl. Currently, the silver price was very high so it drive the price up. The product here is sell by the weigh of the object.

Noble House

We visit the Noble house, the house owner was doughtier of princess Fongcome. Nan was independence kingdom and has their own Monarch rules.After the king join the Bangkok, the former ruler were decline in power. This place is absolutely AMAZING.  Real Amazing ! Truly Amazing.!  I saw, made cotton fabric, a small cotton factory. Gosh ! It needs so many skill to get a small tread. This is fantastic experience that people should do.


We met the house owner and she was our private guide for her own property. The house was well kept . It was open around 6 years and made some modify since there are no people live inside now. It is interesting to visit inside and see old furniture that used in the old day.

After that, we visited Wat Koh noi. OMG ! See my pictures. It is one of the best pictures that i took. It is great place to see the view of Nan.

Then, we check in at resort called Apirata. It is located on the silver factory area. It must has been nicer if we arrive during rice plantation time,

We break for 20 minutes and went to have dinner river restaurant called Huan Choa Nang.  The food was delicious and we met Kob Fah, Ms. Mam's son.  It was almost rain since the sky was so dark. Mr. Dome worry about the rain may ruin the highlight of tonight. But it didn't since no rain.

We drove to Phathat Chea heang, the temple we visited 2 days ago. There are local festival last day. They have have BOK FAI DOK (a kind of fireworks light from the ground) here is my pictures.

We left a little early and go to Nan market which is almost done at 21.00. We do not get anything. It is small. I like the live folk music and place to sit to have Kantok dinner.

















Then, we went to Bua loy shop for dinner. It odd to have dessert this time . It was too late at night for eating. Anyways, this is a kind of Bua loy I Like. May be you like it.
