I visited Phrae for one day on the way for long trip for Nan trip for 4 days. One full days is full of happiness , harmony and memorable.Phrae is a small town, located in the north of Thailand. This is an idea place for hiking, exotic wild life, biking and handicrafts produced. This small town was once center of teak producing center.
My experience is consist of scooter trip, home made bread cooking, wonderful stay in wooden home stay using solar cell, visit handy-carve factory, visit stunning temples, experience wonderful local food and ride view the rice field and greenery farm.
Plan my trip
Plan my trip was easy. All I need is to get bus ticket to get there since my friend, P Bua will await for me at her house.2 weeks before travelling time, i bough a VIP bus ticket to Phrea. The bus line could be Phayo or Chiang rai destination. The stop is Ngoa district. But i get off at mile stone of 41 to Ngoaw which is 12 kilometer after Nang Fah intersection.
Note : it is better to book the seat early for those who travelling during weekend.
I informed P Bua early that i will arrive her house around 04.00 at 12 March 2014
Travel Date & Bus experience
11 March 2014 I arrived Sombat tour before time and wait for 20 minute to get on board. I was impressive with the bus service which private own by Sombat transportation company. It was clean and well organized.After boarding, the bus hostage asked where i want to get off. I explain about P'Bua resort and she knew the place well and notice many foreigner get off there. I think she mean Corne, P Bua husband who travel back home by this bus quite often.
The bus leaf the station at 08.25 which is all time. 24 seat was full of passenger. Bus hostage gave several packs which consist of snack and drink.
I went to sleep after the bus run for 30 minute with worry free since the bus hostage know well where i was going to get off.
01.30 a.m. , all passengers were awake to 30 minute break somewhere in the middle of the highway. This is not so good experience but it was acceptable due to safety reason of changing the driver and break after long drive.
04.20 a.m I arrived and get off at P Bua house. Her house is a resort which is only sign as red brick. It is dark due to no electric light.

I made phone call to P Bua and she come right away.I went inside the house and P Bua show me around a little where thing was we talked for about 5 minutes before i went to bed.
I notice that Tymo, P Bua's son , will go to school at 07.30 a.m. So i want to catch up to see Tymo this morning.
I woke up at 07.15 for little refreshment. The temperature was a little chilly in the morning this morning.

After say hi to Tymo, three of us take a scooter ride for 5 kilometer long to the local school. The ride went along high way for small down hill. Then we turn to small street along the pass the corn field, and tobacco filed. Then we entered to village and drove in the school.

The school is small . I think there are around 80-100 student in school. It was 08.00 a.m. which is a time for respect the flag stand.

Baan Wang Din
Tymo run late a little late but still ok. P Bua and I left the school and drive her dog back to her father house. P Bua show me the view of Khuan mea Yom , a small reservoir around her village. A nice view with decoration of Steam locomotive. |

Then, we visited the village to observe the handicrafts work by the waste from furniture industry. It is saw dust. The villager bring saw dust to create free form sculpture.
They really have art idea and creative. They only use primitive tool and create sculpture.

Then, we went back to P Bua house to break for breakfast. It is nice morning. I have a chance to taste home cook bread which made by P Bua. Her bread and cooking was delicious. |

Then we plan what we are going to see and to do for the rest of the day before pick up Tymo from school.

We decided to drive for Pha Muang Phi. It is around 20 kilometers away from P Bua home. This is one of Thailand's amazing natural wonders, Phae Mueang Phi is a tree-less area you will find a eerie beauty of soil erosion and subsidence, creating different shapes and forms---some of which were formed into the shape of an exotic-looking mushroom or weird creatures.

Then, we ride to the city to see the temple and find some local food for lunch.
On the way to Phrae is amazing ride. It has rice green field and small village with wooden house. People work on the field and bird fly around are nice back ground of our ride. It bring energy and refreshment.
Wat Pha That Chor Hea
The temple, we visited is Wat Pha That Chor Hea. This temple was built in the Sukhothai period, Wat Phra That Cho Hae is a major religious and perhaps the most sacred Buddhism site of Phrae. The highlight is the 33-meter-tall Chiang Saen-style phra that (pagoda), wrapped with bright brass sheets, which enshrines holy relics of Lord Buddha. The name of the temple refers to traditional fine silk woven found in Sip Song Panna, which was first used to wrap the pagoda when the temple was first constructed.The temple are in low hill with over 100 steps to reach the top. There are also elevator to reach the top. But i think this is not for athletic people like us. So we walked.
On the way, we passed the small market. People bring goods to sell. We saw many interesting product as you can see in the pictures.

This temple contain of pagoda which people who born in tiger year will come to pay respect. This is the year i born and I were recommend to come here long time ago but to not have time to visit. This is one of the highlight of my day.

Then, we drove to small shop for regional dish. It is Koa Soi. In Thailand Koa mean rice gran. Koa Soi has no rice on it. However, the food was nice and wonderful taste.

We continue to small village to see More Hom , natural print fabric which is commonly use and produce in Phrae. More Hom factory is a major visit place for Phrea travelling. |

We headed back to pick up Tymo since it was a little late. Tymo was excited to know that we were going to Mea Song reservoir.
Anchalee Silk Factory
On the way, Tymo told us the sign of Anchalee Mai Thai, silk factory. We heritage about stop there. Finally, we did we saw the great product and admire miss Anchalee who passionate to make silk fabric. She learn 3 days for weaving silk later she lean for 6 months for the technique of weave by her own. She intend to use locals skilled in the craft of weaving silk and cotton. The art of making Tin Chok fabric has been handed down from generation to generation while the design has been gradually changing to adapt to new preferences.

Her product won the national ancient fabric design and the beloved princes has use for her dress.
This is a must visit place for those who love fabric. the factory is small and only sell the product here.
Mea Song Reservoir
Another place that people come for relaxing in the evening. Today, not many people come and the water is a little dry due to entering to summer time.
Bua Home for Dinner
We headed back since we afraid of dark after sunset. So we head back and P Bua made home cook for us for my last meal in Phrea.
This is a wonderful experience in Phrea . It was nice to spend a day with P Bua. It is totally inspire to visit and explore Thai culture and enjoy hospitality of Thai people.
