Chiang Mai bicycle tour

I am grateful to LJ Biz for organizing a bicycle tour for me this January, when I was in Chiang Mai.  Starting from a cycling camp in southern Chiang Mai, an elderly Dutch couple and I, together with our friendly and knowledgeable guide, cycled along the banks of the Ping River and were soon on the outskirts of the city. We covered a total of 18 km in six hours, which included a two-hour leisurely lunch break at a farm restaurant. I realized that this was the best way to explore the Chiang Mai countryside.

We cycled slowly to enjoy the scenery along the way. The country roads were quiet and peaceful, hence perfect as cycle paths. The morning air was cool and calm. We stopped by to take a look at farmers planting rice. We also saw new houses being constructed in northern Thai style (elevated and with teakwood) and a number of residential housing sites, now becoming more popular in Chiang Mai.

We cycled past an old leprosy hospital (leprosy used to be a big problem in Thailand in the past) and stopped at a museum, which had a display of photographs and other items depicting life in Chiang Mai in the previous centuries. We also visited a local handcraft center and saw artisans in action.

We stopped for lunch at a country restaurant by the canal in Saraphi. The restaurant was surrounded by fruit and vegetable gardens in a forested area. We helped cook the meal. Everything we ate was local food: freshly out of the organic farm. We needed to ensure we ate as much as we could, knowing there would be more cycling to do after lunch.

We visited a number of very beautiful temples, including Wat Kok Klang, Wat Kan Thom, Wat Changkam and Wat Chedi Liem. We saw the remains of the old city and temples at Wat E-Khang and Wat Pupia. We were also lucky to cycle through a local market that is open only once a week; we stopped for a little while to take a look.

I would highly recommend a bicycletour if you are in Chiang Mai with a day to spare. LJ Biz can take care of all your needs, including a pick up from your place of residence, provision of a bicycle and a professional guide, lunch and drop off at the end of the tour. I can assure you that you will get very good value for your money and leave with an enriched experience and fond memories.
